White trainers at work: my interview with Le Temps

I’m delighted to share my interview with the newspaper Le Temps on a subject that is raising more and more questions in the professional world: whether white trainers have a place at work.

In recent years, workplace dress codes have been shifting. Silhouettes are becoming more relaxed, the line between formal and casual wear is blurring, and some pieces once reserved for off-duty moments are now finding their place in the professional world.

The white trainer is probably one of the best examples.

Many thanks to journalist Olivia Schmidely for her work and for giving me the opportunity to share my views on workplace dress codes.

I can’t say it often enough: never underestimate the power of a first impression. Our clothes, our posture, our colours and the details we choose all send a message before we’ve said a single word.

So, can you wear white trainers to work?

Yes, of course, but not just any pair, not everywhere and certainly not any old way.

It all depends on your industry, your role, the company culture, what the day holds and, of course, how they fit into the outfit as a whole.

A clean, elegant, minimalist and well-kept white trainer can work perfectly with well-cut trousers, a contemporary suit or a more relaxed professional look. On the other hand, a very sporty, worn or overly chunky pair can instantly change the way the whole outfit is perceived.

So the real question isn’t simply whether a piece is “allowed”, but what message it sends, and whether that message is consistent with your professional environment, your role and the image you want to project.

A truly modern dress code isn’t about following rigid rules. It’s about adapting your image with sound judgement, staying true to who you are while respecting the codes of your environment.

In short: white trainers at work? Why not, as long as you choose them carefully and know when and how to wear them.
